Good news, I currently have a number of openings in my studio. If you are in the area and are interested in lessons, feel free to contact me. My current studio is in Santa Cruz, but I am now planning for one day a week teaching at West Valley Music in Mountain View.

I teach students of all ages, children through adults. My teaching program depends on what the student wants to do. Beginners get a solid foundation in tone and technique, as well as fun tunes to play. If you already play and enjoy flute playing as a pastime, great! I can help you improve and widen your repertoire so you get more out of your passion. If you are motivated and want to become an advanced or professional player, I will work with you toward that goal. If you have a child who would like to start studying the flute, I work with children who are big enough for the instrument. Kids who are too small for the flute can start on the Yamaha 'fife' (blown crosswise, just like the flute), or recorder/pennywhistle. These instruments are very inexpensive (less than $10). Student flutes can be rented at the local music shops, so the initial trial doesn't have to be such a big investment.

Baroque flute lessons are available to those interested in that instrument. I also teach celtic and swedish folk music to players of both wooden and modern flutes. If you already play modern flute well, it is easy to adapt your style to play the folk music, but it _does_ require a change in style and approach; one you can pick up by listening to recordings, but having a teacher speeds up the process a lot.

Twice a year we present an informal concert for friends and family, usually at a local church, where the students show what they have learned over the last 6 months. Cookies and Drinks follow :).

Every summer I teach at at 2-week Children's Celtic Camp, organized by the Santa Cruz Community Music School. Highly recommended; it is taught outdoors at a this very engaging Bonny Doon property. The children learn a lot of tunes, do crafts, make new friends and play music together. See the pictures via the links below.
